The Glossy Ibis is a medium-sized, dark wading bird with a long, decurved bill, an appearance responsible for the common name “black curlew.” In good light, the plumage is metallic bronze with a striking green tinge.The picture of this Glossy Ibis was taken at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge near Titusville, Florida.The picture of this Glossy Ibis was photographed with the Canon 5D Mark III Canon 300mm f2.8 IS II with the 2X extender.

I took the picture of this Glossy Ibis flying over Big Johns Pond last Friday at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Although the Glossy Ibis in North America lives primarily along the Atlantic Coast, the Glossy Ibis also can be found in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
